Recent Trend on Transdermal Drug Delivery System and Advancements in Drug Delivery through Skin
نویسندگان
چکیده
Transdermal drug delivery is the application of drug on the skin surface so that it can permeate through the skin and reaches the systemic circulation at sufficient concentration to ensure therapeutic efficacy. Transdermal drug delivery system (TDDS) has several advantages over conventional system; TDDS offers sustained drug release, avoidance of first pass effect, patient compliance, ease of application and removal in case of toxicity as well as decrease in the side effects as compared with conventional therapy. The stratum corneum acts as a barrier that limits the penetration of substances through the skin and this limitation can be overcome by permeation enhancing techniques. A transdermal patch has several components such as backing membrane, drug reservoir, adhesive layer, release control membrane and liner etc. This review article provides an overview of TDDS, its advantages over conventional dosage forms, Limitations, various components of transdermal patches, types of transdermal patches, and its methods of evaluation and the advancements done in this field. © 2014 Universal Research Publications. Transdermal drug delivery (TDD) is a non-invasive, topical administration method for therapeutic agents. Transdermal delivery also has advantages including providing release for long periods of time, improving patient compliance, and generally being inexpensive. Despite these advantages, the use of TDD has been limited by innate barrier functions of the skin. Only small (<500 Da), lipophilic mo...
متن کاملFabrication of polymeric microneedle arrays containing Amphotericin-B for transdermal drug delivery
Background and Aim: Drug delivery through the microneedle array has been considered as an easy and non-invasive method in recent years. The purpose of this study was to design and construct an array of biodegradable polymeric microneedles containing Amphotericin-B to introduce this system and its use in the treatment of cutaneous lesions caused by Leishmania major parasite inoculation as a mode...
متن کاملEnhanced Controlled Transdermal Delivery of Mexazolam Using Ethylene-vinyl Acetate
Repeated oral administration of mexazolam, an anti-anxiety agent, may cause adverse effects such as gastric disturbance, drowsiness, and ataxia due to transiently high blood levels. Transdermal administration would avoid the systemic side effects and gastric disorders after oral administration. We have developed a matrix using ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA), a heat-processible and flexible mat...

متن کاملElectrospun polymeric nanofibers for transdermal drug delivery
Conventional transdermal drug delivery systems (TDDS) have been designed for drug delivery through the skin. These systems use the permeability property of stratum corneum, the outermost surface layer of the skin. Applying polymeric micro and nanofibers in drug delivery has recently attracted great attention and the electrospinning technique is the preferred method for polymeric micro-nanofiber...
